Sustainability in Action at andBeyond Mnemba Island

People and Planet

andBeyond Mnemba Island's environmental efforts go beyond simply removing plastic water bottles. The property is committed to protecting turtle nests and conducts daily beach clean-ups to ensure the pristine white-sand beach stays pristine. Guests can also explore the lodge's tree nursery, learn about local conservation efforts for Africa's rarest antelope species, the Ader's duiker, and the tiny Suni antelope. Mnemba Island's efforts have also led to the establishment of Oceans Without Borders, a marine conservation initiative.

In addition, andBeyond has worked to establish a medical clinic on the north-eastern coast of Zanzibar. Together with the Africa Foundation, The Kigomani Clinic serves nearly 11,000 people from the surrounding communities, including Matemwe, Mbyutende, and Kijini.
