By reusing the former military base's building materials and maintaining 100% of the original exterior design and 75% of the interior walls and floors, tens of thousands of pounds of construction waste was diverted from landfills while simultaneously preserving Fort Baker's historic architecture. The result earned Cavallo Point LEED Gold status from the U.S. Green Building Council and top architectural honors from the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Beyond the buildings themselves, Cavallo Point has also engaged in regeneration of the surrounding landscape, including planting thousands of native vegetation species grown from seed as part of Fort Baker's ecological restoration.
