We are committed to positive and transformative impact. Here are some ways we do it at andBeyond Sandibe Okavango Safari Lodge.

Protecting Wildlife
Roughly 30% of the African wild dogs left in the world can be found in Botswana – more specifically, in the Okavango Delta region, where andBeyond Sandibe Okavango Safari Lodge is located. These animals, also known as the painted wolf or Cape hunting dog, have faced threats including poaching, habitat loss, and disease that have reduced their numbers to between only 3,000 and 5,000 in the wild. In an effort to further understand and protect this rare species, andBeyond supports the Botswana Predator Conservation Trust and its African Wild Dog Dispersal Study. For an added fee, guests can meet with a local African wild dog research team member after dinner one evening to learn more.
Committing to the Community
Through a partnership with nonprofit Wild Impact (formerly the Africa Foundation), andBeyond has made significant contributions to the local community. In 2017, Sexaxa Primary School opened, eliminating the need for children to walk up to five kilometers each day to receive an education. Originally two classroom blocks, a kitchen, and some restrooms, the project has since expanded to include more classics for additional grade levels; there are plans to add housing for teaching staff and more classrooms in the coming years. Another program, Community Leaders Education Fund (CLEF), has awarded 1,285 scholarships to 855 college-aged students.
Preserving Resources
For over a decade, andBeyond has worked to reduce its carbon footprint and promote sustainability in the African savanna. In 2014, andBeyond Sandibe Okavango Safari Lodge installed a solar power plant – the first of its kind in the Okavango Delta. By utilizing this solar energy, the resort is now able to ensure that 70% of the power it uses is renewable. andBeyond’s environmental impact doesn’t end there, as its numerous African resorts work hard to audit their operations and incorporate sustainable efforts wherever possible, from heating systems and wastewater management to water bottling plants.
