We are committed to positive and transformative impact. Here are some ways they do it at andBeyond Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge.

Thriving Wildlife
Conservation is integral to the success of Africa’s wildlife lodges. Because of andBeyond Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge’s location on the western side of Serengeti National Park, resident lion prides abound. andBeyond invested US$50,000 as a founding member of the Lionscape Coalition, a joint initiative between the Lion Recovery Fund and the ecotourism industry to protect the animals and the lands where they live. In addition, andBeyond partners with Wild Impact to present Echo environmental education classes and field trips for students from rural communities to visit nearby preservation areas and learn about careers in conservation.
Environmental Impact
During a redesign, the lodge placed an emphasis on sustainability from planning to completion. Lightweight steel, natural canvas, and local hardwood were utilized during the construction process, with large doors and windows allowing ample natural lighting and a connection with the natural surroundings. A solar power system was created, allowing andBeyond Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge to run on 80% renewable energy, while energy-saving hot water systems and lighting add to the green initiatives. Additional efforts include recycling wastewater and removing plastic straws as well as using low-flow shower heads and an on-site bottling plant.
Committing to the Community
andBeyond has long collaborated with its nonprofit partner Wild Impact to provide support to the local community. At Lukungu Primary School, this includes providing new classrooms, desks, teacher’s accommodations, a kitchen with dining hall, and more. Another initiative, the Community Leaders Education Fund, provides college-aged students from rural African communities in Tanzania, South Africa, Kenya, Botswana, and Namibia with bursaries to attend school. Rather than paying them back, the students pay it forward through community service projects. In addition, more than 100 locals have been provided with training and work experience at the lodge.
