Although andBeyond Serengeti Under Canvas isn’t always in the same spot, the hospitality company still gives back to its local surroundings. Serengeti National Park is one of the main focuses of the Echo environmental education lessons. These lessons, which are part of nearby school curriculums, shine a spotlight on sustainable conservation in protected areas, such as the park, which is known for being in the path of the Great Migration. In addition to taking trips out into the bush and learning about preservation initiatives, the children are informed about possible career paths in conservation.

In 1996, the Community Leaders Education Fund, or CLEF, was established in order to help local college-aged students afford schooling. This tertiary education program, originally implemented by andBeyond’s nonprofit partner Wild Impact, has already doled out more than 1,200 bursaries to nearly 900 young leaders from 62 rural African communities. A unique aspect of these scholarships is the “buyisela,” or community service, component. In a full-circle moment, recipients must complete a community service project to further give back to the local community after receiving their funds.

Another collaboration between andBeyond and Wild Impact, the Future Foundations program, has also been crucial for local communities in Tanzania and beyond. Community-oriented projects centered around education and healthcare have bolstered infrastructures in a way that wouldn’t be possible otherwise. These efforts are focused on specific partner areas, like Lukungu community, where important institutions are lacking. Healthcare facilities are key to the health and well-being of local villagers while primary and secondary schools provide an opportunity for continued education.
