We are committed to positive and transformative impact. Here are some of the ways we do it at Cavallo Point.

  • Preserving the Past

    Cavallo Point didn’t simply reclaim and restore the grounds of historic Fort Baker – during its construction, the hotel reused the former military base’s building materials while maintaining 100 percent of its exterior design and 75 percent of its interior walls and floors. The result helped earn Cavallo LEED Gold status from the U.S. Green Building Council and top architectural honors from the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

  • Serving Sustainable Food

    Seasonal menus feature fresh, organic ingredients from San Francisco Bay – area producers. Guests can gain further insight into the hotel’s culinary philosophy through demos and hands-on cooking classes at the Cavallo Point Cooking School, which also emphasizes the three S’s – seasonality, sustainability, and stewardship.

  • Sustaining San Francisco’s Community

    Cavallo’s philanthropic giving extends to local schools, eco-programs, museums, and more. Through an optional $3-per-night surcharge, guests can also give back by helping fund the non-profit Cavallo Point Fund, which supports organizations such as the Bay Area Discovery Museum, the Marine Mammal Center, Environmental Travel Partners, Wildcare and The Conscious Kitchen, a school dining program that addresses food equity.

  • Supporting the Arts

    Rotating exhibits at the hotel’s Art Gallery focus on sustainability and conservation while featuring local artists and renowned nature photographers such as Russ Eddy. Art also features prominently in Cavallo’s guestrooms and in the hotel’s common areas. Look for Stephen Joseph’s photographs of botanical specimens collected by John Muir.

  • Getting Guests Outdoors

    Cavallo’s setting – and its guided hikes – in Golden Gate National Recreation Area immediately immerses guests in the natural world and Vintage electric bikes facilitate carbon-free explorations in the greater Bay Area.
