The resort works to regenerate coral reef systems, in part by employing Biorock technology, which promotes coral growth. Cared for by a team of marine biologists, its on-site coral nursery, the Lagoonarium, also serves as a sanctuary to more than 200 marine species and an experiential classroom for guests to learn about ocean conservation.

Guest experiences are designed to honor Polynesian heritage. Cultural ambassadors lead rainforest tours while sharing stories about local customs, teach guests how to weave with palm fronds and prepare traditional Polynesian dishes, and provide authentic music and dance performances. The resort also helps fund community programs and sponsors a dance group to perform at an annual Heiva festival.

A first-of-its kind innovative Sea Water Air Conditioning system relies on deep-sea water rather than harmful chemicals to provide air conditioning. Nature and tech also team up at the resort to provide renewable solar power. InterContinental Bora Bora also gathers rainwater in collection tanks to irrigate its lush tropical gardens.

On-site boutiques feature naturally and locally produced goods such as traditional sarongs, tifaifai bedspreads, and coconut frond baskets. To further support local artisans, the resort points guests to community markets, shops, and galleries on Bora Bora.

A dedicated green team works to advance sustainability goals at the resort, which also sponsors eco-educational programs for local students, both on-site and at area schools.
