We are committed to positive and transformative impact. Here are some ways they do it at andBeyond Lake Manyara Tree Lodge.

Classes in Conservation
Conservation of Africa’s wilderness areas is crucial to the survival of the animals that call them home. But respect and understanding of these natural spaces starts with the locals. Many of the schoolchildren who live in nearby villages have never had the opportunity to visit Lake Manyara National Park, so andBeyond Lake Manyara Tree Lodge and its nonprofit partner, Wild Impact, developed the Echo program, which takes students on field visits to learn about the parks, their wildlife, the importance of conservation, and which career paths can make a difference. Thousands of local children have participated since the program’s inception.
Science in Small Communities
In 2012, a presidential decree in Tanzania instructed all public schools to build fully-equipped science laboratories at their own cost – an initiative that placed a lot of pressure on campuses in poor rural communities. Kilimamoja Secondary School had raised enough money for just walls and a roof when andBeyond and Wild Impact stepped in, securing enough funds to build labs for chemistry, biology, and physics, each with the capacity for 45 students. The Uhuru torch race, which celebrates stand-out developments, visited the campus the year that the labs opened to celebrate the occasion.
Community Initiatives
Ensuring that future leaders receive the education that they deserve has been at the forefront of andBeyond’s work with Wild Impact, providing African communities with much-needed help to increase earning potential and develop local youths’ skills. One program, called Future Foundations, has helped build important infrastructure centers, including medical facilities as well as schools, in rural communities. Another program, Community Leaders Education Fund, provides bursaries to college-aged students in exchange for community service projects. More than 1,200 scholarships have been given out to youth in more than 60 different villages thus far.
